In 1967, Dr. Paul Lindstrom (1939–2002), a pioneer of the modern
home school movement, assembled a home study curriculum to meet
the need of one student. Other students were soon added, and,
in the early years, the tiny ministry staff simply called the
project by the generic term, “home study.” By 1970,
the fledgling home study project was becoming more organized,
and would soon be officially called Christian Liberty Academy
Satellite Schools, or CLASS. The term “Satellite” was used in
the older sense of the word, referring to the individual home
schools around the world who were using the CLASS program.
As the home schooling movement came into its own in the 1970s
and ’80s, CLASS advanced with it, often
experiencing almost unbelievable annual growth—with the
attendant growing pains. In 2000, the name was changed to Christian
Liberty
Academy School System because some families mistakenly thought
they had to purchase a satellite dish in order to enroll with
CLASS.
Today, CLASS remains an independent and non-denominational K–12
Christian home education program serving thousands of families
each year. CLASS has helped over 100,000 families throughout
the United States and around the world to get started—and
persevere—in home schooling. CLASS graduates are being
accepted by leading colleges, universities, and military academies.
The CLASS administrative headquarters is situated on a twelve-acre
campus located in the beautiful suburban village of Arlington
Heights, Illinois, thirty miles northwest of Chicago’s
Loop. The campus also serves as the location for the Christian
Liberty Academy, a day-school founded in 1968, and Christian
Liberty Press, our publishing arm, founded in 1985.

The mission of CLASS is to provide Christian parents with quality,
affordable educational products and services that will enable
them to teach their children in the home and train them to follow
Christ in every area of life to the glory of God.
