View Curriculum Second Grade

The following subjects are required for second grade:
 

Mathematics
This subject is required each year through tenth grade, or longer if the student has not successfully completed Algebra 1 by that time.

Note: You may, or we might, choose different courses from different grade levels if they are more appropriate for your student. CLASS reserves the right to modify course selection based on standardized test scores, course availability, and previous course assignments.

Course Description: This course teaches students place-value to the hundred thousands. Students are also taught addition and subtraction facts in terms of their organization into “families” from one to eighteen; these are joined by multiplication and division “families” from one to five to facilitate the memorization of computational facts. Additional topics found throughout the course include subtraction with borrowing, fractions and mixed numbers, rounding, making change, weight measurement, liquid measure, linear measure, bar and line graphs, perimeter, symmetry, reading a thermometer to one degree, reference temperatures, telling time to the minute, and Roman numerals to 1,000.
