If, in a moment of weariness, you have ever entertained the thought of giving up on homeschooling and sending your precious children back to the public schools (of course you haven’t), I sincerely hope the recent events in California will give you pause. Actually, I hope they stop you dead in your tracks. Perhaps a few of you, especially those from California, held out some hope for the state when the unfortunate Democrat governor, Gray Davis, was replaced by the supposedly more conservative Republican, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Gray Davis, you may recall, once proclaimed that, “My vision is to make the most diverse state on earth, and we have people from every planet on the earth in this state.” Well, Governor Schwarzenegger (planet unknown) has just signed into law several bills which mandate the eradication of all references to traditional gender roles in the California public schools. The terms “Mom and Dad” and “husband and wife” can no longer be used in textbooks because they are—get this—discriminatory. And that is only the beginning. Boys may now use the girls’ restrooms and locker rooms, and vice versa, I presume, if their sense of gender identity so dictates. The schools will be required to indoctrinate the young minds under their care with the acceptability, even beauty, of perverted sexual behavior. Homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality are now not only protected by law, they must be promoted to children as perfectly natural and healthy. How did we come to this place? When man in his pride determines that the God who created him will not rule over him, he will ultimately stop at nothing to eliminate every vestige of the image of God which he finds in himself or in society. Of course, man hits a snag here. He does not have the image of God; he is in the image of God. As the Bible says, God created us male and female. However much he tries, man cannot remove the image of God in himself without doing away with himself. In Proverbs 8:36, God says, “all they that hate Me love death.” God is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. To remove God is to remove life. The worst man can do is to corrupt that image of God. The worst corruption results in nothing short of the debased and bizarre. Can you think of a single benefit to society that has proceeded from any of the so-called “alternate lifestyles?” The Christian family, however, acting in its traditional role under God, has formed the bedrock of all that is good and uplifting in our civilization. The irony of the legislation in California is found in the very “evil” it was intended to outlaw—discrimination. At the same time that it supposedly does away with discrimination against a tiny minority of perverts, this legislation enshrines into law a vicious discrimination against Christians and other social conservatives who constitute a substantial portion of the population. Teachers cannot even say or print words like “Mom” or “Dad” because that might offend a sodomite, while traditionalists not only must bear silently the most egregious assault on their values, but will now be required to condone what they know to be evil and teach it to children. The values of the perverts have reared their ugly heads many times through the centuries, and they have invariably met with God’s judgment, however long delayed by His kindness and long-suffering. Christian values, however, have stood the test of time, being blessed by God over countless generations. I recently received a call from a gentleman who represents many potential homeschoolers. He had been directed to our curriculum by a mutual friend. He made it clear that the California legislation had heightened the intensity of his search for an alternative to the local public school. We at Christian Liberty stand ready to serve those who are ready to abandon the anti-family and anti-Christ secular public schools while there is yet time to save their children’s minds and hearts.
