The CLASS customer service phone team receives a steady stream of requests for help and guidance. For example, some of the most common questions that families ask are...

Q:
Why does CLASS cost so much less than other programs?

A: CLASS is a not for profit ministry dedicated to keeping Christian education affordable. One of the ways we do this is by publishing our own materials. As the largest publisher of material designed specifically for homeschoolers, we are able to factor in our actual costs rather than retail pricing. We often publish our own teachers manuals and tests for textbooks published by others such as Bob Jones or Abeka which also saves our families money. As a ministry, we also accept donations from people who are concerned about keeping solid biblical teaching affordable. In fact a number of people donate regularly to our scholarship fund which enables us to help many who would otherwise not be able to afford a good Christian education. Donations should be sent to us clearly marked as a donation so that we know what it is for and can send an acknowledgment.

Q:
We would like to send our student to a local class for Biology. Can we do that?

A: Biology is a required course for our high school diploma. In order to meet the diploma requirements, it needs to be a course we administer. If the course being offered by your local group is the same as our course, and the student can turn in the work to us according to our course instructions, it is possible. It is not possible for us to substitute core curriculum that we do not administer. We can accept transcripts covering core curriculum for grade levels that are not administered by CLASS. For example, a student that transfers in to CLASS in the 11th grade with a 10th grade transcript showing a Biology course taken in a previous school is acceptable.

Q:
My student is really struggling with a particular course, what can I do?

A: There are several ways you may want to address the issue:

1.

2.

3.
You may want to submit a Curriculum Adjustment Request form and ask for a different course. We can make adjustments as long there is enough time left in your year to finish the course.
If your struggle is with the approach, rather than the level of work, we may have an alternative publisher available as well.
Don’t forget that you can also just take the time you need to complete a course. You can purchase up to three additional extension quarters if needed. It is acceptable to continue on a course for one grade level while starting on the next grade level. Some families back up and review for a time. That may be all the student needs in order to grasp the earlier concepts and then proceed with the rest of the course. You may also ask for an explanation of low scores to help you figure out where your student is struggling. Just send in a Report Card Adjustment form and ask for an explanation of a specific score.

Q:
Why can’t I make payments by phone?

A: Banking regulations require extensive security protocols for the handling of credit/debit card data. At this time we do not have a means to take payments by phone and meet those requirements.

Q:
We are trying to make plans for attending the graduation ceremony next year. When will it be held and when can we expect to receive information?

A: The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, June 17th 2007. We will also host an honors night for twelfth graders and their families on Saturday June 16th in the evening. Specific details will be mailed to families who are enrolled in CLASS in either 8th or 12th grade by early spring. Students are not required to complete their grade level prior to attending since we mail the actual diploma once the student has submitted and officially passed all the required subjects toward graduation.
