How the years slip away! My eldest child graduated from the CLASS homeschool program over a decade ago, and my youngest will graduate next summer. As I cast a glance back over the years my wife and I homeschooled our children, I recall with some regret all the grand things I planned to contribute to that endeavor—and just never did. God bless homeschooling moms like my wife who, by doing most of the planning, instructing, grading, and many things else, make us dads look like great fathers.
We made some sacrifices to homeschool our children, like foregoing a second income during the early years, but the result is well worth it. The children are strong academically, and what a blessing to see that they actually enjoy each other’s company despite the difference in their ages. They are equally at ease with children, adults, and seniors. Would you believe that my seventeen-year-old likes to hold her father’s hand as we walk together?
If you are sometimes tempted to give up and send your children back to that “free” public education, take a deep breath and hang in there. Remember that in this race the reward goes not to the swift but to all those who finish the race.
